We Are Racing Against Time, Not Each Other

Hebrews 12:1-2

No, we are not in competition with each other. The Bible speaks about the race of life, but some people misunderstand it as a race against others. This is not a competition of man versus man. The real race is against time.

Every human being born into this world is racing against an expiration date, our time on earth is limited. We are each given a timeframe, and within that time, we are to fulfil the purpose for which God created us. You are not here by accident. You were created with divine intent, and you must race to accomplish that purpose before your time is up.

This race is personal. It’s not about outperforming others but about fulfilling your God-given assignment. God has placed expectations on each of us. His design, His plan, His purpose for you is unique. It is critical to meet these expectations to walk in the fullness of what He created you to be.

When this earthly race ends, there is an eternal realm beyond. What we do here determines the rewards and the position we will hold in that eternal realm. Life doesn’t end with physical death; it transitions.

A Personal Encounter

Many years ago, I went through a season of intense dreams, most of them about the end times, heaven, and divine rewards. At the time, I didn’t fully understand why. Later, I realized those dreams were God’s way of preparing me for the afflictions of that season. The enemy was orchestrating attacks to discourage me, to push me back into the world, and to derail my purpose.

Before I gave my life to Christ, I thought I had “friends” and I had the wrong definition of “pleasure”. But when I chose total devotion to Christ and to grow in Him, everything changed. My desires, my conversations, my company—all shifted. I realized I was uncomfortable around certain conversations, but it was the Holy Spirit convicting me, teaching me sensitivity to His voice.

Conviction is vital in a believer’s life. If you can gossip, slander, or sin without any conviction, it’s a red flag. You must pause, repent, and realign with God’s Spirit. Sensitivity to His conviction keeps us from drifting away.

During that season, the enemy used people to try and control me, to discourage me from stepping into my destiny. I was in Italy at the time, facing significant opposition. But God, through His Word and dreams, kept encouraging me. The moment I chose to obey, despite the pressure, God began to order my steps. Things didn’t look favorable at first, but behind the scenes, He was orchestrating my victory.

The Enemy’s Tactic: Wasting Your Time

One of the enemy’s most effective strategies is to make you lose time. If he can’t stop you, he will try to minimize your impact. He aims to distract you with conflicts, discouragements, and detours so that you miss key moments of service to the Lord.

That’s why we must live intentionally. Go all out for God. Use every gift, every ounce of grace and anointing He has given you. When your time on earth ends, may you have no regrets, knowing you fulfilled your purpose.

We Are Not Competitors—We Are Co-Laborers

We were never called to compete with each other. Humans are meant to complement, encourage, and uplift one another. Sadly, the enemy sows discord, especially within the church and families, to divide us and waste our precious time.

We must be wiser than the enemy. His tactics are old, but if we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us, he will find no room to manipulate us. Unity, love, and mutual encouragement are powerful weapons against his schemes.

Redeem Your Time

Be intentional with your time. Understand that time, not man, is what you are racing against. Maximize every moment, every opportunity. Walk in wisdom. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your time, your purpose, or your impact.

God bless you.

I pray this message encourages you. Share it. Use it to strengthen someone else as you have been strengthened. Let’s run this race together—not against each other—but in unity, with purpose, and with eternity in mind.
